North-South Lake Campground

One of the most beautiful places in the world is hidden under the modest title North-South Lake Campground in the Castilian mountains in New York State.

02. Near the lake is a campground with 200 spots. We had reserved a place for 2 weeks, therefore the site was not anything spectacular, but the site which we got was quite cozy. It was only a 5 minutes walk to the lake.

03. Our tents set up:

04. The northern part of the lake is called the North,  the southern part - Lake South. The lakes are connected by a strait.

05. Local landscapes can be used to take beautiful pictures.

06. There are paved trails around the lake and in the surrounding woods.
07. One of the trails leads up the hill and to a place that offers such a view!

08. They say that from this point you can see five different U.S. states. Obviously, this must be possible only during some natural phenomenon, when the air is completely transparent. The visibility was low when we were there, although it still provided a breathtaking view.

09. On this site, there was a hotel early in the 20th century.

10.  Now, no structure remains - only this photo.

11. The next trail runs along the top of the mountain.

12. At this point, simply breathtaking. The flight of an eagle can be seen from the top.

13. Great time!

14.   Trail passes around a huge boulder, which lies on the edge of the abyss.

15. I would hate to be the guy that had to carry this boulder to the top of the mountain!

16. The next attraction was the  Kaaterskill Falls. The falls were caught between the mountains so only a small parking lot for cars was managed to be place 200 meters from the entrance to the trail. Therefore, some of the places I had to go in search of parking were on such dangerous mountain roads.

17. We go up the path to the waterfall.

18. This is a small waterfall on the way:

19. And now, the main waterfall - Kaaterskill Falls. Really a big spectacle. This is the lower part of waterfall. Read a separate post about this waterfall here.

20. I must say - it was a very dangerous place. On such a slope there was little just to hold on to, if that.

21. To get to the top, we had to walk on such a ledge, just above the abyss, but the view was worth it.

22. We say goodbye to the waterfall, and go back to the lake where we can relax, swim and rest.

23. The sun sets, the day ends, but the memories of this place are not erased.
